Oregon is one of only 20 states that allow patients complete, unrestricted access to physical therapy at any clinic the patient chooses. No physician referral is required for a patient to receive treatment from a licensed physical therapist (PT). Physicians/Licensed Health Professional

While direct access to a physical therapist is unrestricted for patient in Oregon, a licensed health professional must refer a patient to an appropriate physical therapist if one or more of the following situations exist:

• The licensed health professional feels the patient's condition is beyond their scope of care.
• The licensed health professional is unsure how to treat the patient's condition.
• The licensed health professional thinks physical therapy is appropriate for the patient's condition.
